Why You Quit Before You Even Get Started (And How to Stop)

Why do we give up on our dreams before we put in the work?

Sometimes life feels like an intersection where everybody's waiting on a green light. We've got places to be! We want permission to move ahead or to make a turn onto a new road. We want someone to say "Hey! That project sounds great. You should do that," before we feel comfortable moving on our passions, new career paths, new relationships, whatever.

I've been there. And here's the thing: you're gonna get that affirmation. It's likely that there are people in your life who are more than willing to hear about your new project, your new passion, new dream and then right after give you the perfect encouragement to follow through on it. However, there's always a catch. Once you get that validation, you then have to follow through. Now there's pressure to do the thing and all of a sudden it's no longer fun because secretly you loved the idea of your dream and its possibilities more than the idea of the work that needs to follow.

The work is kind of unknown to you. Because you haven't started, you don't really know what the path ahead looks like yet and that's scary. All you can do is guess. We get the green light, but we're frozen. The road in front of us might be winding and bumpy, it might be unpaved in some parts and narrow in others, but we can't turn around right? Call it before we even get going and then beat ourselves up for it later? Have you ever been caught in that pattern? It's like misery.

For a moment just ask yourself what the alternative is. If you're not gonna move ahead, you're gonna stay in the same place or return to what you know. Personally, I find that to be way scarier than the unknown. Staying stuck? Fuck that. If you're not growing, you're dying. I think most people would agree with that, even if they don't live their lives that way, but you have a chance to be different.

So if you're not gonna turn around and if you're not gonna put it in park, what's the only option left to you?

Hitting the gas baby!

Start. Just go for it. You're already in the car so **DRIVE**. You get to choose what direction you head. You get to choose the rest stops, the gas breaks, the speed, the music. This process you get to control as long as you got your foot on the pedal and hands on the wheel.

Enjoy the ride. Always.
